While many have predicted that book stores would fade off into the sunset in an age of falling to sleep by the light of one’s Kindle, I’m happy to report that independent booksellers are alive and well in Central Illinois.
April 27 is Independent Bookstore Day, and readers and writers alike from across the area will be celebrating.
Monticello’s Hartfield Book Company will celebrate with an open mic night at 6:30 pm, followed by readings from local poets Matthew Murrey and John Palen. Those who like to read will be invited to sign-up beginning around 6:15 pm.
But if you are simply looking for a good reason to patronize your local independent bookstore on a Saturday afternoon, we put together a map to the locally owned and managed stores where you can peruse and purchase used as well as new books in our area!
