The Champaign-Urbana Craft League is welcoming a record-breaking 39 exhibitors to its annual art fair, being held this Saturday and Sunday at the Savoy Recreation Center – a new location for the event, which was traditionally held at the Urbana Civic Center that went kaput in late 2018.
The fair features a wide variety of styles and media from creators in Chambana and elsewhere in Central Illinois, and looking at the list of exhibitors may bring back memories of Urbana’s inaugural Crystal Lake Art Fair this summer. A gymnasium in nearby Savoy is certainly a different setting, but since it will be filled with art ranging from jewelry and artistic quilts to paintings and pottery, no one’s complaining.
Guest artists from outside CI include Vinnie Sutherland, a metalwork artist from Michigan. From the Chicago area, jeweler Claudia Winter and potter Karen Fiorino will also be showing their wares.
But many of the faces will be familiar to art fair regulars, with Jill Miller displaying her Hooey Batiks and Lydia Puddicombe showing her one-of-a-kind prints.
Admission to the Art Fair is free and it opens on 10 am Saturday, Nov. 9. The show ends at 5 pm on Saturday, then runs from 11 am to 4 pm on Sunday, Nov. 10.
